We met at The Waggoner’s at 8.00 am then travelled to Grassington using car share. To save money we parked on the road near the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority Car Park on Hebden Road. On arrival the weather was exceptionally good given the time of year. Warm with very little cloud in the sky. We set off walking at 9.15 am, first stop after a couple of minutes for the obligatory toilet stop. Then up the hill for 5 and a half miles. upon reaching the top, the trig point at Capplestone Gate then views were fantastic. Then downhill to Kettlewell, arriving later than planned due to the time negotiating the many stiles. Getting the 6 dogs over made this a long job, the mud did not help either. At kettlewell a stop for lunch, just sandwiches so we could gain time back. We left Kettlewell at 1.30 pm and walked up to Conistone Pie then onto Grassington at 4.00 pm and arrived back in Queensbury for 5.00 pm.
Our walk took in Grassington, Capplestone Gate, Kettlewell, Conistone Pie, Parts of The Dalesway. We saw Medieval Field Systems, remains of the old lead mines and derelict houses.
15.5 miles and 600 metres or 2,000 feet of climbing, most of it in the first 5.5 miles.
A fantastic walk, the great compny made it even better.
