Queensbury Con Club – Sing-a-Long – Submitted by Cllr P Cromie

Queensbury Conservative Club

SING-A-LONG: every Tuesday at 3pm at the Conservative Club, Chapel Street. Come along and have some fun, free sandwiches are provided.

Downstairs in Concert Room With

Disabled Access Available

Do you like music? If so come along to our Tuesday afternoon sing a longs with resident organist mark who is an accomplished player, he reads music so bring your own if you like, or just pick a song you know and mark will follow you.

Come along and listen to our lovely singers, just ordinary people like yourselves, who love music and love to sing, but you don’t have to be a singer just enjoy the afternoon. Buffet tea available.

My name is Alan Brewster and I have lived in the village for 42 years, many will know me from the club and the West End pub, which me and my wife Dianne used to run, and is where we started the sing a longs. It has become very successful over the years, and we are a friendly bunch of people, who make every one very welcome.

I have been involved with community events over the years and would like to help in keeping our village community alive for the young and not so young, especially with the closure of some of our pubs, there’s lots being organised at the moment for people to get involved in and we would like to extend this event that takes place every week on Tuesday afternoons, come along and have a look for yourselves.

All welcome

Many thanks Alan Brewster club secretary

Old Book of Queensbury.

Historical Sketches

I have been given some photo copied sheets from the below book:

Clayton, Old Dolphin, Queensbury district and Shibden Dale: Historical sketches by James Parker 1901

and would like to borrow this book from someone or library so that I can scan it and place information on this web site for all to have use of. It will now be out of copyright so I should not have a problem.

Goodwinners – Queensbury -Updated

Hello Stuart, Thanks for your interest, we are a sheltered housing complex who were encouraged and supported by our Landlord, Incommunnities, to form an association to include the bungalows of Ashbourne Crescent, The Grove and Albert Crescent. We formed a committee, of which I am Treasurer,  in 2008, and adopted the name of The Goodwinners & Co, we hold our meetings on the first Monday of each month at 2pm.

Since the formation we have held many functions at Goodwin House including Easter Fayre, Garden Party, Bonfire night, Christmas parties and day trips out, our next function is a fund raising event in support of the Lung association to be held at Goodwin House on Saturday 10th May 2014, for which details are to be discussed at our meeting on 2nd Feb. Hope this is enough info for you.

I am just writing to let people know, We in Queensbury, have an organization called Goodwinners & Co, this is an organization for the elderly who live in Incommunities sheltered accommodation, we put on functions, for example, we hold an Easter, a barbecue a bonfire night event & others throughout the year to raise money for days out with meals for our elderly residents, all the days out are subsidised by the functions we hold & grants from Incommunities, I am the secretary of this group, & we hold a meeting in Goodwin House Lounge on the 1st Monday of every month, so if anyone would like to join us you would be more than welcome.
