On Monday, June 22nd, 1903, the Bradford Tramways Committee had before them the result of the negotiations with the Shelf Tramway Company for the purchase of their undertaking, which consists of about three-quarters of a mile of route outside the city boundary, and decided to recommend the Council to accept the Company’s offer to dispose of the line for a total sum of £1,950.
The Bradford City Council have this week, June 23rd, 1903, commenced work in the Shelf portion belonging to the Shelf Tramway Company. The terms of agreement are, subject to the approval of the Council and shareholders, that the Shelf Company- shall receive £1,875, plus expenses up to £75, apart from any expenses if any are incurred by the appointment of an arbitrator by the Board of Trade, whose service will not be required. Should there be any under this head, which is not expected, these also will be borne by the Council.
The Bradford Corporation started making the Shelf Electric Tramway .on Thursday, June 25th, 1903.
SHELF ELECTRIC TRAMWAYS OPENED.
The Bradford City Corporation Electric Tramways Committee ran a Trial Car from Buttershaw to Shelf, on Tuesday afternoon, September 1st, 1903, and later on, a full service was commenced.
SHELF OLD STEAM TRAMWAY COMPANY.
A General Meeting of the Directors and Shareholders of the Shelf Tramway Company, Limited, was held on Wednesday evening, February 17th, 1904, at the offices of the Company at Bradford, for the purpose of formally receiving the liquidators’ report.
The Company owned the tramway lines at Shelf, over which the old steam tram cars ran, and sold their rights to the Bradford City Tramways Committee some months ago for the sum of £1875.
There was a fair attendance at the meeting. Mr. J. H. Woodhead, (Chairman and joint liquidator with Mr. J. W. Stott), who presided, stated that the balance available for distribution to the Shareholders, after allowing £6 8s. 2d. for the personal expenses of the liquidators, amounted to £239 1 0s. 6d., with which it was proposed to pay 4s. 4½d on each of 4204 shares.
This would represent a loss of 5s. 1½d per share on the share capital, 16s 6d having been paid up.
On the motion of Mr. J. Pinder., seconded by Mr. J. A. Proud, a resolution was unanimously passed accepting the liquidators’ report, and endorsing the way in which the Company had been wound up. A further resolution, proposed by Mr. H. Hainsworth and seconded by Mr. Emanuel Proud, thanking the directors and liquidators for their services, was heartily agreed to.

SHELF STEAM TRAMS.
These trains ceased to run after January 31st, 1903, owing to a disagreement with the Shareholders and the Bradford Electric Tramways Committee. The Shelf shareholders wanted £3,400 for their line and the goodwill, and the Bradford Tramways Committee only offered them £1500

The Electric Tramways were run from Bankfoot to the King’s Head Inn, Buttershaw, on Friday, May 29th, 1903.
