Narrow Boating – Monday 4 June 2012

The walking group held an event on The Rochdale Canal on Monday 4th June 2012. We hired a narrow boat for the day from Bronte Boat Hire of Hebden Bridge.

We arrived at Hebden Bridge where we were met by the owners of the boat. The workings of the boat were explained and we set off for our first instruction in the working of a lock, This seemed very daunting at first. Up through the first lock and then we were left to our own devices. We travelled  towards Todmorden, then soon arrived at the second lock. Thankfully there was another boat going up that lock so we tucked in at the side of them and we watched as they operated the lock, yes we had forgotten to put some of our crew ashore, it did not happen again.

Meanwhile Des was preparing breakfast on the boat stove and oven, bacon and egg butties. These were excellent as were his cups of tea and coffee. Many thanks Des.
